Sally
began her career as the perky TV "Gidget" in 1965,
then went on to play the "The Flying Nun" from 1967
to 1970. Limited fame followed, but both roles proved obstacles
in her subsequent attempt to make it as a serious actress. She
started to have some success in the mid 1970s when she played
the female lead in the 1976 bodybuilding drama "Stay Hungry",
her one and only nude appearance. Following that role, there
was her starring role in the TV movie "Sybil", for
which she won an Emmy, "Smokey and the Bandit", "Hooper",
"Norma Rae" (for which she won a Best Actress Academy
Award), "Absence of Malice", "Kiss Me Goodbye",
"Places in the Heart" (for which she won another Best
Actress Academy Award), among many others. |
